If you are looking for a children’s book that will help to teach children the importance of inclusion, Ricky, the Rock Who Couldn’t Roll is quite possibly the perfect book for you. A great rock group has all gathered to play together and to roll around on their favorite rolling hill. The group soon discovers though that their friend Ricky is unable to roll with them. He isn’t made like them because he is flat on one side. The friends work together to figure out how to help Ricky roll and learn some great lessons about friendships, adversity and triumph.

On page 10, point out to students that the other rocks can not seem to understand why Ricky could not roll. Have students make an inference. Why was it so hard for the other rocks to understand why Ricky could not roll with them?
