Charlie loved it when his grandfather came to babysit! You see, Charlie’s grandfather was a magician who could do all the amazing tricks like making a coin disappear and pulling a rabbit from a hat. When his grandfather came over, he would always share his magic tricks and one of the stories from his collection of adventure stories. All of Grandpa’s stories began with something that had been tucked away in his Magic Story Chest. An hourglass sparks the story about how Grandpa defended the treasure hidden in King Tut’s tomb from raiders. A white scarf provides the inspiration for the story about Grandpa’s dogfight with the famous World War I fighter pilot, Red Baron. A coconut shell leads to the story of Grandpa’s encounter with a nasty Tyrannosaurus Rex. Charlie’s parents don’t really like Grandpa telling all these “tall tales” to Charlie because they don’t think they are true. However, according to Grandpa all you need to do is simply believe and stories in your dreams and imagination can be turned into something that is real. The Magician’s Secret is a lovely story about a boy’s relationship with his Grandpa and the power of imagination.
